Royal couple to take a chance in open-topped carriage

Friday April 29, 2011

Come rain or shine, Prince William and his bride will travel from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace in an open-topped carriage.

Despite the threat of wet weather, the newlyweds will be transported in an open State Landau, a Palace spokesperson has confirmed.

The 1902 carriage is the same one used by the Prince and Princess of Wales on their wedding day in 1981.

Kate and William's decision will delight the thousands of people lining the processional route who will be given the best possible view of the couple.

They could have opted to take the ornate covered Glass Coach, used by Diana on her way to St Paul's nearly 30 years ago.
