Scarlett Johansson turns down Army ball invite

Friday July 29, 2011

The Marine Corp Ball celebrity invites have continued with Sgt Dustin Williams' YouTube video for Scarlett Johansson.

Unlike Sgt Scott Moore and Cpl Kelsey De Santis – who will be attending with Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, respectively – Dustin was not quite as lucky.

The Lost in Translation star regretfully declined the inviation.

"I feel incredibly honoured to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams.

"Not only does [he] deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking.

"Unfortunately, due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year."

The actress did, however, send the Marine a case of Moët Champagne to ease the pain.

Another Marine, Sgt. Ray Lewis, asked Golden Girl Betty White, 89, to accompany him to the November event.

The veteran Hollywood figure had to decline but Ray was not disappointed for long.

After Betty's cordial refusial, he promplty received an offer from Terminator actress Linda Hamilton.

She said: "Look, I know that I am no Betty White. But I would be really, really thrilled - if you can't find anybody else, and I know that's unlikely - to go to the ball with you. I could go!"
