The cast of Coronation Street had plenty to celebrate on Monday night, after trumping arch-rivals EastEnders at the TV Quick Awards. But it was former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison who stole the show, in an empire-waisted white gown with a daringly plunging neckline.

She was among a roll-call of British TV stars setting the flashbulbs blazing at London's Dorchester Hotel. Emmerdale glamour girl Lucy Pargeter turned heads in a low-cut mini-dress, while Corrie's Tupele Dorgu made quite an impression in black satin. And it was the residents of Weatherfield who shone brightest on the night, taking home four of the main awards.

Tina O'Brien, who plays teenage mum Sarah Platt, won best soap actress, while recent arrival Sam Aston received the gong for best newcomer. The long-running drama was also named winner in the best soap and best storyline categories.

The inhabitants of Albert Square would have been forgiven for feeling a little downhearted, but they didn't go home completely empty-handed, after the inimitable Shane Richie emerged victorious in the best actor section. Footballers Wives femme fatale Zoe Lucker meanwhile took the honours for best actress.
