25 FEBRUARY 2009 His good humour and dodgy dance moves made John Sergeant the talking point of last year's Strictly Come Dancing. And while he didnít emerge as the competition's winner, his efforts on the show earned him another accolade, at the Oldie Of The Year Awards.
John was named 'hoofer of the year' at the tongue-in-cheek ceremony hosted by Terry Wogan in London on Tuesday.
Referring to his hugely popular stint on the talent show the unlikely hero, 64, quipped: "A mistake that some people made is that they seemed to think I was a bad dancer. Now I donít know how they got that impression, I did everything I could to stop that."
Other winners at the Oldies - an annual magazine awards ceremony celebrating famous older citizens who've made headlines - included Alzheimer Disease sufferer Terry Pratchett who was named top campaigner, and Fawlty Towers' actor Andrew Sachs who scooped the 'granddad of the year' award.
