And of his pregnant wife, radiant and showing off her small baby bump in a floor-length Escalada gown, the handsome star gushed: "She looks fantastic. It's a Mc-Duff adventure."
James and 39-year-old Anne-Marie, who married in 2006, weren't the only ones excited by the prospect.
Their co-star Helen – elegant as always in a striking purple gown – joined in the celebrations, saying: "Its wonderful news and it couldn’t happen to a greater couple."
As it emerged that the British couple would be extending their family, there was another new dad was out and about at a screening across the pond.
Mel Gibson and his partner Oksana Grigorieva – who gave birth to a little girl in November – made an appearance at the unveiling of The Edge of Darkness, where they enjoyed an evening out alongside Mel's co star in both Maverick and The Beaver, Jodie Foster.
He already has seven children – the actor's ex-wife Robyn had six sons and a daughter – but the star has said its different getting back into fatherhood at the age of 54.

And he reveals it's often mum who gets up in the night to tend to the baby.
"I will be honest, I would say that her mother does the lion's share of that work," said the New York-born director. "But you know, I support her."
