Mel Gibson put his ongoing custody case and domestic violence charges behind him as he stepped out on the Cannes red carpet.
The troubled actor, 55, was attending the premiere of his latest cinematic venture, The Beaver, accompanied by the film's director and old pal Jodie Foster.
The Panic Room actress – who recently spoke out in support of her dear friend - held his hand tightly as they walked the red carpet together.
They posed for pictures together, Mel looking dapper in a black tuxedo.
Jodie, 48, looked radiant in a midnight-blue, asymmetrical floor-length number, complemented by sparkling diamond jewellery.
In the movie, Mel plays a depressed CEO of a toy company. He dons a beaver handpuppet to communicate better with his wife -Jodie's character - and his two sons.
Mel and Jodie have been friends since they filmed Maverick together in 1994.
On the subject of his recent woes, the actress said: "I know that he has troubles, and when you love somebody you don’t just walk away from them when they are struggling."
