Hot new dates for Katy and Justin at star-studded Billboard Awards

There was a time when Katy Perry would arrive at red carpet events on the arm of Russell Brand.Now, five months after the couple’s split, the singer attended the Billboard Music Awards with a new date she described as “hotter than the Las Vegas weather” – her grandmother.The 27-year-old stepped out at the star-studded bash with Ann Hudson, who dressed for the occasion in a silver and cream ensemble complete with a glittering walking stick. Katy chose a striking lilac gown that was perfectly complemented by violet curls and matching lipstick.

After lighting up the red carpet, the Fireworks songstress sparkled inside the Las Vegas event with a dramatic performance of her single Wide Awake.She also received a spotlight award in honour of her chart-topping achievements.While Katy was on a high at the Billboard Awards, it was British singer Adele’s night.She scooped 12 gongs, including the Top Artist and the Top Female Artist, - but wasn't on hand to collect her trophies.But there were plenty of other winners at the event celebrating their achievements, including teen heart-throb Justin Bieber.

He ensured it was a night to remember for one lucky high school student after inviting her along as his date.Cady Einer, 18, became the envy of girls across the globe when she accompanied Justin to the awards ceremony.She had been asking the superstar to go to her senior prom with her for several years via his website, but he had always had to decline.“I couldn´t make it (to the prom) so I said, I need you to fly to the Billboard Awards and you can be my date,” he told People.“She’s a big fan and I thought it would be fun!”Justin scooped the first award of the night for Social artist and also performed his new single Boyfriend for an excited audience.

Stevie Wonder, LMFAO and Taylor Swift were also honoured at the event, which was hosted by Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen.And Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown poignantly accepted the special Millennium Award on behalf of her late mother.“I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all. Not just from when it was good, but when it was bad too,” she said.“Thank you so much for showing that much love because she deserved it. She did.
