The actress began dating the New York Jets star, 25, in June. He has previously been linked with actress Hayden Panettiere and plus size model Kate Upton.
In a recent interview with Eva, 37, which was conducted by her friend and X Factor USA presenter Mario Lopez , the star said she was keeping things casual.
After being asked whether she was dating the soccer star, Eva remained reserved and composed saying: "Mark and I are, you know, fine. We're happy just dating."
Sadly, nothing more came from the relationship, as a spokesperson confirmed that the pair had split up on Tuesday.
Mark Sanchez's representative from The New York Jets confirmed the news, and said that the break-up had been amicable.
He said: "Mark adores and respects Eva. It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends."
The Desperate Housewives actress has been rather unlucky in love. The beauty married first husband and General Hospital star Tyler Christopher in 2002 in Las Vegas, but the pair called it quits in 2004, with Eva citing her youth as one of the main factors.
Although she met San Antonio Spurs Point Guard and future husband Tony Parker in the same year, the couple did not get engaged until November 2006. They married in married in 2007, but later divorced in January 2011, with the couple citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.
The actress then went on to date Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz's brother, Eduardo, 27, for a year, with the pair splitting up in March 2012 on good terms.
Eva is said to be getting over the split by focusing on her philanthropic work.
As well as being a key speaker at Barack Obama's re-election conference, she's is a keen supporter of the President's re-election campaign. She most recently starred in a TV advertisement with Scarlett Johansson and actress Kerry Washington, which attacks Republican candidate Mitt Romney's gender policies.
