Following a gruelling 22 days in the Australian rainforest Charlie stormed to victory ahead of 11 other contestants including David Haye, who came third, Eric Bristow, fourth and Made in Chelsea star Hugo Taylor who finished in fifth place. Also taking part this year was TV chef Rosemary Shrager, Helen Flanagan, MP Nadine Dorries, Linda Robson, Colin Baker, Brian Conley and 80's star Limahl.
Charlie, who is known for her role as Janine Butcher in the BBC 1 soap, said she felt "silly" about her new title, which was taken last year by Dougie Poynter of boy band McFly, but added "I never expected this, not in a million years. Everyone's been amazing and brilliant."
Since the show finished Charlie opened up about her experience of falling fell victim to one of its most harrowing tasks to date. When taking part in a new challenge named Door To Door, the EastEnder was asked to select one of the four coloured doors in front of her and told that if she selected the right one, she would receive a mystery surprise. Behind one of the doors was Kiki, but when her mum selected the blue rather than the yellow door which she had hidden behind, the youngster was left dissappointed.
Charlie revealed she came close to quitting the show as a result of the task, but later decided to stick with it and was joined by a beaming Kiki, who jumped into her mummy's arms, just before her victory was announced. Charlie's own mother, Roe, had also flown to Australia to be reunited with her daugter.
Any bad feeling after the challenge was gone when Charlie tweeted that as her daughter the purple-clad youngster earned the title of "Princess of the Jungle, so proud xxx."
In their joint interview Charlie's fellow female finalist, Ashley, also spoke of her time in the camp. The 31-year-old claimed "I have gone beyond what I ever expected to get through in this competition, I'm so proud of myself."
Just one of the Pussycat Doll's triumphant moments came during the final challenge which both Charlie and Ashley had to undertake. The two women were challenged with eating four dishes each, and for each dish they ate, they would receive a substantial Mexican meal later in camp. Whilst Charlie described the task as "traumatising" the women successfully ate their way through the plates of nasties ensuring their final night in camp was a happy one.
