Shakira and her newborn son Milan are safely back at home having left hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Five days after giving birth 35-year-old Shakira and baby Milan left to rest and enjoy quality time together. The singer was discharged from hospital and joined by boyfriend Gerard Pique in an SUV with tinted windows driven by her half-brother.
The singer, who gave birth to son Milan on Tuesday, had been spending time at the Teknon clinic and receiving frequent visits from boyfriend and doting dad Gerard as well as members of her family. Nidia Ripoll Torrado, Shakira's mother and her father William Mebarak Chadid were seen leaving the Barcelona Clinic where the Waka Waka songstress gave birth.
The Columbian star's parents were happy to talk to reporters and express their joy at seeing the youngster: "It's very emotional" said Nidia, "I burst into tears."
She added that Milan is a "beautiful child who doesn't cry much." Shakira, who is Nidia and William's only child, is also recovering well from her planned caesarean section according to her mother.
New dad Gerard has also been staunchly at Shakira's side and even when he wasn't, the footballer was certainly thinking about little Milan. On Friday when the 25-year-old scored for Barcelona FC against fellow Spanish team Malaga he dedicated the goal to his three-day-old son.
Gerard then spent Friday night at the hospital before leaving the private clinic for training the next day. At 10:30 Gerard drove from the hospital, located in the North West of the city, to join his teammates for practise before hurrying back.
Montserrat Bernabeu, Gerard's mother, visited her new grandson on Saturday afternoon, confirming Nidia and William's comments that both mother and baby were in good health.
Thus far only one image of baby Milan has been released, a picture tweeted by proud dad Gerard revealing the legs and feet of the newborn, who was pictured wearing stylish white sneakers emblazoned with his moniker.
Shakira and Gerard have been dating for two years, and the Hips Don't Lie star has spoken about how happy she is with the "best thing" that has ever happened to her. She said: "This man is the best thing that could have happened in my life. And now the baby!"
The couple welcomed their first child, whose full name is Milan Pique Mebarak after his father and paternal grandfather, five months after announcing the they were expecting.
Thrilled with their new arrival, who weighed in at six lbs six ounces, Shakira and Gerard released a statement on the singer's website to announce the news:
"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain. The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."
