Shayne can't Ward off disappointment as he exits 'Dancing on Ice'

Shayne Ward's glittering reality TV record hasn't translated into his latest stint on Dancing On Ice. On Sunday, the man who won the second series of the X Factor became the latest celebrity to be voted off the dancing extravaganza. Shayne and his partner, Maria Filippov, went blade-to-blade against former EastEnders actor Matt Lapinskas and his partner Brianne Delcourt after finding themselves at the bottom of the scoreboard.

Despite giving their all, the pair came off worst in the showdown. Shayne found himself out in the cold in more ways than one, with head judge Robin Cousins saying the two dances "could not compare". Fellow Judge Karen Barber, meanwhile, found the decision difficult saying it was: "a skate-off that should never have been." Shayne, who recently starred in West End musical Rock Of Ages, couldn't hide his disappointment that his skating journey had come to such an abrupt end. On hearing his fate, he said he was "absolutely devastated", and paid tribute to his fellow celebrities and the instructors who had trained them: "Thank you so much, you've been an amazing bunch."

Earlier in the evening, there had been some harsh criticisms.  Robin told Shayne he was "almost more comfortable" on his own on the ice than when he was dancing with his partner. Meanwhile, competitor Matt was praised for putting on a performance that was "unlike anything ever seen on the show."
