Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara has admitted she is having her eggs frozen as part of a fertility treatment. The Colombian star, 40, is also taking hormone pills and injections in her bid to get pregnant.
"I have to be careful what I eat because they're freezing my eggs," she said. "They want to get as many eggs as they can because usually you produce them but they’re not good. They have to be perfect, perfect, perfect ones."
Sofia hopes this will give her a better chance of starting a family with fiancé Nick Loeb, who she has dated since 2010. "My boyfriend is 37, younger than me, never had kids," she added.
The Latina actress, on the other hand, already has a 20-year-old son Manolo from her first marriage to teenage sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, who she married at the age of 18.
While Sofia has said that she struggled with being a working mum at times, she admitted last year that she would like to have another child.
"I would think about it," she said. "I can have more nannies. So it wouldn't be something crazy for me. But I wouldn't have four. Maybe one is fine."
There has been a lot of speculation about her planning for a family with Nick. Just recently the couple were reported to be expecting a baby via surrogacy.
"Rather than going through the trying process of hiring a stranger to serve as a surrogate, Sofia handpicked one of her healthiest and closest friends," a source revealed.
The friend in question has not been named, but she reportedly had a medical scare late last month and was rushed to hospital.
Sofia is best known for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on Modern Family, who she says she can relate to. "It's very close to me," she said of her character. "I'm a mother with a kid, I'm an immigrant in this country… I can show a little bit of my country to the States, to the world."
The popular actress was nominated for Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Awards and the sitcom has won an Emmy and SAG Award.
