Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have welcomed their first child, a little girl named Lincoln. The happy couple announced the news on Thursday via Twitter. "My new roommate poops her pants and doesn't pay rent…basically @daxshepard pre-sobriety :) Welcome baby Lincoln," Kristen, 32, joked as she shared news of her daughter's arrival with fans.

Just one day previously, the House of Lies actress posted a picture of her pet dog cuddling up to her bare baby bump as she rested at home, with the caption, "Eavesdropping".The arrival of little Lincoln Bell Shepard comes just months after Dax went through the heartache of losing his dad. In December, the actor's father sadly passed away — and in a poignant blog entry earlier in March, he shared the incredible moment his father met his unborn child. He recalled how Kristen flew in unannounced from Los Angeles to visit his father in hospital, shortly before his death.

"At one point, and unbeknownst to both of us, my wife walked into the room. She had flown in from LA without any warning. It was a surprise. It was an amazing, incredible, perfectly timed surprise," he wrote. "She lifted her shirt up and he put his hand on her swollen stomach. He left it there for the better part of an hour. He was smiling from ear to ear, sitting contently, unable to put together a sentence, but still capable of connecting to the new family member we were creating. "He wasn’t going to make it to the birth, but that didn’t get in the way of him meeting the new baby. It was an emotional and triumphant moment. One I will never forget. If I live to be a thousand, I will still be in debt to my wife for giving him that one last thrill."

Kristen and Dax got engaged in 2009 after two years together, and although they have discussed marriage — Dax refers to Kristen as his wife — they have said they will not tie the knot until gay marriage has been made legal in their home state of California, out of respect for their friends. "The reason we're not rushing to get married is because I don't feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that's denied my (gay and lesbian) friends," Kristen told the Advocate last August. It was a sentiment echoed by Dax when he spoke to CNN in 2012. "We're not punishing America by not getting married…" he said. "We're not going to have a party and invite all our friends, half of whom can't (get married). We're not going to ask them to come and celebrate a right they don't have. That's just tacky."
