Cheryl Cole might be resuming her role as a judge of the US version of the X Factor. Reports say that the show's creator Simon Cowell wants the former Girls Aloud singer back on the show to give advice to America's talented hopefuls once again.A move Stateside would work out well for Cheryl, who has been spending increasing amounts of time in Los Angeles with her American-born boyfriend Tre Holloway.

A source told The Mirror: "Simon would love to have Cheryl back. They're chatting more and more at the moment and he's hopeful she might be up for coming back. "She's still spending a lot of time in the States and wants to move out there, so it's looking more likely to be on the cards."

With the Girls Aloud reunion tour now over, Cheryl is at something of a loose end. "It's exciting to have no plans for once," she said. "I got a little way in with the third album then put it to one side to concentrate on the girls, so I don't know. I had a third single planned, but now it feels like it was part of 'then', so I don't know. "Music is my first love, so I'll never leave that behind."

But there could be one complication to her reinstatement on the show. Cheryl, now 29, was replaced in the first season by Nicole Scherzinger after appearing just three times. She started legal proceedings against its production company, Blue Orbit, after being let go. She claims she is owed £1.25million for lost earnings from the second series in addition to other costs. There are two empty seats on the third season's judging panel beside Simon and Demi Lovato, as pop star Britney Spears and music executive L.A. Reid won't be returning. Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, 34, is said to be one of the possible replacements.
