Simon Cowell has claimed that Lauren Silverman, who is pregnant with the couple's baby boy, is not a gold-digger.During an interview with Ellen Degeneres Simon, 53, responded to critics who have claimed that US socialite Lauren is only interested in his immense forturne, which is estimated to be around  £61million. "I obviously can't blame the media - it was kind of what I call a juicy story," said Simon. "But there was a lot of stuff that was said about her, that she trapped me and that she's a gold-digger. It's absolute nonsense. "She's a great girl," added Simon. "But, like I said, it was awkward because of the circumstances."

Despite the media scrutiny Simon also said that pregnant Lauren is in a "really good place" and that he is looking forward to becoming a dad. "This is exciting and this is going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks, because everyone knows it was well documented," Simon told chat show host Ellen. "It [the situation] was kind of uncomfortable, but these things happen and everything is kind of calm now and I'm happy. I'm actually happier than I've ever been."

Simon's comments that Lauren is not a gold-digger come just days after the music mogul revealed that his son will not inherit his multi million pound fortune. Simon is keen for the little boy to make his own way in life and that he will be donating his money to a good cause. "I'm going to leave my money to a charity probably — kids and dogs," said Simon in an interview with Esquire magazine. "I don't believe in passing it on from one generation to another."
