Exclusive: Kristina Rihanoff opens up on painful split from Joe Calzaghe
30 SEPTEMBER 2013
Stunning Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff has spoken for the first time about her painful split from former boxer Joe Calzaghe.
In an exclusive interview with HELLO! magazine, she reveals the reasons behind the split included differences of opinion over a desire to have children.
They also disagreed over Kristina’s busy workload. Kristina starred in West End show Burn the Floor this summer, while Joe had less work and stayed mainly in Wales.

"He was sick and tired of waiting around for me, and said that if I truly loved him, I wouldn’t have taken the job in the West End," she reveals.
Kristina had actually taken the job, turning down a role in the Strictly Confidential tour, so that she could stay in one place to make things easier in her relationship.
"I’m confused, because he knows how much it takes to be the best at your career," she said. "I said, ’Why didn’t you tell me not to do Burn the Floor?’
"But he said he understood it wouldn’t be fair to ask me to stop my job, that he knows that I support my family and love what I do.” Kristina provides financial support to her mum, grandfather, aunt and two teenage cousins back in Russia.
The couple have remained friends and Joe texted Kristina to wish her luck before the launch of the new series. They had dated since meeting on the 2009 series of Strictly.
Joe already has two teenage sons, so was less keen on expanding their family, but for Kristina, this still remains a dream. "I have always wanted children," she told HELLO!.
Kristina has moved out of the London flat. "I’m not scared to be alone because I’ve never relied on a man," she says.
She is not ready to date again just yet.
"I think that after the show has finished, by Christmas and New Year, then maybe it will be time to start dating, but you don’t know, do you?"
In the meantime she is channeling her energy into dancing with her new Strictly partner Ben Cohen and says that dancing has been her "therapy".
