Johnny Depp and fiancé Amber Heard celebrated her birthday in style, as the pair stepped out in the city’s East Village wearing hats to shield themselves from paparazzi. The couple, who announced their engagement back in February, were in New York to celebrate Amber’s 28th birthday. Johnny, 50, followed Amber into the Bowery Hotel on Monday as the actress wore a wide-brimmed black hat as her beau sported a torn camel-coloured hat with a silk ribbon adorning it.

It wasn’t the first time the actor wore the hat, as he was also spotted wearing it in January at the pair's intimate engagement celebration at the Carondelet House– a red brick, Italian-style private villa opened in 1928 - in downtown Los Angeles. Later that day they also had a pre-birthday dinner at Il Buco Italian restauarant in Manhattan’s Noho neighbourhood where Johnny wore the same broken hat. Amber meanwhile looked stunning in a red velvet coat over a red lacey dress. She complimented her outfit with a high ponytail and red lipstick.

Johnny recently opened up on his "wonderful" fiancée Amber.

Speaking on Today in the US, Johnny said: "She's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me." He also called her "a wonderful girl" and said that he got on very well with his future father-in-law, adding that her father Davis is "about the closest thing to Hunter S. Thompson I’ve ever met", referring to the eccentric and wild author who wrote books The Rum Diaries and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, two films in which Johnny has starred. When asked about the wedding plans, which are rumoured to be taking place on his private island in the Bahamas, Johnny said: "I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything", before admitting: "I'm really bad at that stuff."
