Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Andy Murray had a passion for tennis from a young age. At 15 years old he was asked to train with Rangers Football Club, but declined, moving to Barcelona instead so that he could focus on his tennis career.
He started to gain a large fan following in 2008 when he made his first Grand Slam quarter final at Wimbledon. He also made his debut at the US Open final, and became the first British player since 1997 to reach the major achievement
In 2012, Andy Murray was ranked as the third best player in the world, the first time in his career that he had made one of the top three slots. The year was full of success, as he won an Olympic gold medal, and also reached the US Open final where he defeated Djokovic in five sets.
Fans were touched when, after being defeated by Federer at the 2012 Wimbledon tournament, Murray teared up and struggled to find the words for a speech.
In 2013, Andy Murray finally got his Wimbledon win and defeated Novak Djokovic
, becoming the first British man to win a Grand Slam final since 1936. Later in the year he received an OBE from Prince William
for his services to tennis.
Andy has been dating Kim Sears since the pair were teenagers, and met at the US Open in 2005. Although the Scotsman is notoriously private about their relationship, he has spoken out before about their future plans. "I can see myself having a family one day," he said. "It is something that I'm starting to think about because Kim and I have been together for eight years."
