Happy birthday, Malia Obama: See her star sign and read your horoscope
04 JULY 2014
Happy birthday, Malia Obama! As President Barack Obama's oldest daughter celebrates her sweet 16th, HELLO! Online takes a look at what the stars have in store for Malia and you…
There is an old saying: 'You become like the company you keep'. There is an element of truth in this. Mix with wealthy people and you are likely to become better off. Mix with intelligent people and you are likely to become smarter. And, of course, if you spend a lot of time with people who are narrow, selfish or unimaginative...well, let us not labour the point. You are growing closer to one person - or group of people. If their values reflect the ones that you feel proud to uphold, that's no problem. Or is it time for a change?
Born in 1998, Malia Obama is the eldest daughter of US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. She grew up in Chicago, where her father was a senator for four years, and she is a fan of football, dance, and gymnastics.
Prior Mr Obama's inauguration, he wrote an open letter to Malia and her younger sister Sasha in Parade magazine, in which he said he wanted them "to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world."
Malia and her sister were promised a dog when they moved into the most famous house in America, the White House, but Malia is allergic to animal dander. They eventually purchased a six-month-old Portuguese Water Dog, popular with people suffering allergies because it does not shed its fur.
The dog was named Bo by Malia and Sasha, and in 2013 the two sisters got a second dog called Sunny.
Turning 16 means that Malia will be able to obtain her driver's licence this summer, and her mother Michelle confirmed during an appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show in February that Malia will indeed be on the road.
The youngster's birthday falls on America's Independence Day. President Obama recently joked: "With the Fourth of July on Friday – also Malia’s birthday for those of you who are interested – she will be 16. A little worrisome."
