Kelly Osbourne has got a new tattoo in honour of her late E! show Fashion Police co-host, legendary female comedian Joan Rivers.

The 29-year-old shared photographs of the new piece of body art and of herself in a tattoo parlour on Thursday, and explained the meaning behind her choice of a bumble bee.

She wrote: "In honor of you @joanrivers... 'If you looked at aerodynamics, at science, the bumble bee should not be able to fly. Physically, it was just not anatomically equipped to soar.

"'Yet it did, defying gravity, defying logic. The bee was a creature that defied and beat the odds, a miracle.' Thank you for being my Miracle @joanrivers."

Another shot shows the TV presenter in the process of getting the tattoo, which appears to be in white ink. Kelly captioned the snap: "Getting a tattoo from tattoo legend #MarkMahoney @sharmrockSocialClub!"

Joan, who paved the way for a new generation of funny women, passed away at the age of 81 in early September.

In a statement, her daughter Melissa Rivers said: "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers.

"She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

"My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

A pioneer, Joan's confrontational, confessional, and often aggressive comedic style riled many but provided a pathway for other female stand-ups to emerge and go toe-to-toe with male comics.

Since Joan's death, Kelly has confirmed that there will be no replacement for her late co-host, and that she herself will be returning to the show.
