Cheryl Fernandez-Versini reached out on social media to explain her behaviour, following the explosive row she had with fellow judge Simon Cowell on The X Factor. The pair had made no secret of their annoyance at each other during Saturday night's episode, taking fans and viewers by surprise at the new level of their arguments. Posting on Twitter and Instagram, Cheryl shared a jokey photo of herself and Simon seated at the judging panel.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell bickered throughout Saturday's live show

While the Newcastle beauty gave a chilling look to the camera, Simon was pictured grinning from ear-to-ear as he wrapped his hands around Cheryl's neck. "Yes... Was one of those nights," she wrote. "You can't tell other judges acts they didn't perform a song as well as they could or should have then when somebody remotely has an opinion on Simon's act he responds with "it's not an acting completion" Don't give it if you can't take it! Right." Earlier on in the evening, Cheryl had criticised Simon's act Jay James for his rendition of Skyfall by British star Adele.

Jean-Bernard and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini left in high spirits after The X Factor

"The production saved you tonight," Cheryl, 31, told the hopeful star. "If you're going to sing a song by Adele, you need more suave and passion in your performance. I didn't feel that at all. Sorry." Quick to defend his act Simon, 55, replied with: "Just to remind you sweetie, this is a singing competition, not an acting competition." "Fine, but don't you ever criticise any of my acts in the future," said Cheryl, clearly infuriated by his words. "Now, talk to your act." Presenter Dermot O'Leary tried to make light of the situation, joking: "I don't like it when mummy and daddy talk like that."

Simon and Cheryl, however, continued to row throughout the televised live show, leaving the Crazy Stupid Love songstress to swap seats with fellow mentor Louis Walsh. After the heated few hours of filming, Cheryl looked to have cooled down and seemed back to her cheery self as she left The X Factor with her husband Jean-Bernard. Dressed in the killer black fishtail gown she had donned for the show, Cheryl gave her winning smile as she beamed at the waiting paparazzi. Adding a touch of 1920s glamour to her look, Cheryl had her brunette locks styled into a tight ponytail and side waves.
