"How exciting is this?"
said Cheryl as she waved to the crowd. "I'm so excited", she added before counting down from ten and pressing the button to light up the street.

The central London celebration also featured a performance of the Christmas carol O Holy Night by 16-year-old Lauren Mae Kidd. The budding singer, who taught herself to play the guitar before attending former EastEnders actress Brooke Kinsella's True Stars Academy, won a social media talent competition to make her public debut at the event.

Cheryl's schedule is jam-packed at the moment. As the X Factor draws ever closer to crowning its winner for this year, the Newcastle-born starlet looks set to claim her fifth number one single on Sunday.
