Ed Miliband's cheeky response to Myleene Klass on twitter

Myleene Klass' robust TV debate with Ed Miliband certainly gave the Labour leader food for thought. So much so that he came back with a lighthearted riposte on Twitter – but one that showed he was still sticking to his point.

The politician wrote: "Here’s why our NHS needs a mansion tax. It’s Pure and Simple’, adding a link to a blog post where Labour set out the arguments for its mansion tax.

Pure and Simple is a reference to the former singer's 2001 hit with her group Hear'Say. On Monday, the pair had a lively discussion over the party's proposal to tax homes worth over £2million.

When the NHS was raised in the discussion as one of the reasons behind the need for the tax, Myleene, 36, said: "You may as well just tax me on this glass of water.

You can't just point at things and tax them." She argued that the tax would hit "little grannies who have lived in those houses for years and years".

Viewers were so fascinated by their exchange that the topic was soon trending, with some congratulating the TV personality on her debating skills.

One posted a mocked up picture of the star in front of a Newsnight sign, wearing a suit and looking severe, referencing comments that she'd "done a Paxman" on the Labour leader.

Others took Mr Miliband's side pointing out that Myleene sold her former marital home last year for £1.8million – just below the proposed mansion tax threshold – after the breakdown of her marriage.

One viewer even set up a humorous Just Giving page, named "Help Myleene Klass pay her Mansion Tax."
