Drew Barrymore has said she is enjoying having a "normal life" after taking a break from making films. The mother-of-two said that she doesn’t mind cutting back on acting, and has chosen to focus on her Flower Beauty make-up collection instead, which lets her work regular hours.

"Even on a workday I can wake up with my kids, go to work, come home, bedtime – there's a normal life there," she told More magazine. "And it's exciting when you have to go on a business trip, as opposed to a film where you're gone for months. I can't do that right now.

"As you add more onto your plate, particularly family, things have to fall off, or you won't be a good parent."

Drew Barrymore has said she doesn't regret cutting back on her acting work

The actress, who celebrates her 40th birthday in February, will be returning to the big screen in the upcoming drama Miss You Already alongside Toni Collette. Drew says she chose to appear in the film because Toni is "one of the great actresses".

Drew's main focus is her husband Will Kopelman and their two daughters – two-year-old Olive and nine-month-old Frankie. The actress also insists that the troubles she had with her parents when she was growing up will help her to become a better mother.

"I didn't really have parents, you know? And therefore the kind of parent I will be is a good, present parent. In a way, maybe that was a detriment to my youth, but it'll be the biggest asset to my adulthood."

Drew has clearly taken to motherhood, and has previously spoken about her plans to act less, especially while her daughters are young.

"I think I will act less and less," Drew said on The Today Show. "It's hard to be present when you wake up before them and come home after they've gone to bed. That's just not the way I want to have this journey with my kids at this point in their life."

"But maybe when they're older, I will feel differently," she added. "But at this point, I think it has to be few and far between."
