Ted Robbins is "doing well" in hospital after collapsing during a live performance of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights on Saturday. According to his wife Judy, the comic actor will be "fit and healthy" again soon after slumping over during the show's opening night at the Manchester Arena. "With Ted now in the hospital," wrote Judy on the father-of-two's Facebook page. "He is in some pain due to bruising on his ribs from chest compressions but other than that he is doing well.

"Ted had rheumatic fever when he was a child which left him with some heart damage so we have always been aware that he would need a routine procedure to correct," explained Judy. "We are so incredibly grateful for everyone's support." Judy went on to appeal for the doctor who rushed to Ted's aid during the show to come forward. "We would love more than anything to find out who the doctor was out of the audience who gave such fantastic treatment," she wrote. "Thanks for all your lovely messages, it's very touching to know he is so loved. He will be fit and healthy again soon. God bless all the NHS staff that are doing such a fantastic job. Xx."

The audience at the Manchester Arena were shocked on Saturday evening when Ted was taken ill mid-performance and the curtain was immediately closed. Staff members and the doctor from the audience rushed to the stage with medical equipment before the show was cancelled. Sunday night, however, will see Phoenix Nights go on as normal; with Ted's co-star and Take Me Out presenter Paddy McGuinness tweeting: "If we didn't [perform] Ted would kick our arses. Lots of love for the big man. The Phoenix will rise again!" Liverpool-born Ted, who is famed for his roles in Coronation Street, Birds of Feather and Little Britain, plays Den Perry in the show, which is based on comedian Peter Kay's television series of the same name.

Peter has revived the characters from his Channel 4 show to raise money for Comic Relief. Ted, whose second cousin is Sir Paul McCartney, is also known for presenting a morning show on BBC Radio Lancashire.
