Nicole Scherzinger has opened up about her split from Lewis Hamilton and said that she still loves the Formula One champion. The singer, who appeared downcast when she returned to work on Wednesday, admitted that she is "devastated" by the split.

"I'm devastated that it didn't work out. It was the hardest decision we had to make, but we made it together," Nicole told The Sun's Dan Wootton.

Despite this being the fourth time that they have split, Nicole maintained that they still love each other.

Nicole Scherzinger said she still loves Lewis Hamilton

"I love Lewis and I know he loves me," she said. "We wish nothing but happiness and the very best for one another. I'm trying to stay strong in my faith right now."

News of Lewis and Nicole's split came to light on Wednesday. The couple reportedly called time on their seven-year relationship due to the pressures of a long distance relationship and their differing views on marriage.

A source told MailOnline: "They both spent most of their time alone because they were in different countries all the time. Nicole is heartbroken and devastated."

Nicole has been supported by her family since the recent split, with her mother Rosemary and elderly Grandmother flying to London from Hawaii to be by her side.

The singer is now said to be focusing on her last few days in Cats, before heading back home to Los Angeles.

The friend added to MailOnline: "Nicole was really lifted by her family's visit. It was the first time her grandmother had been to visit her in London, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

"She's been throwing herself into work for the past few weeks and it's been a real tonic. They both care about each other deeply, and really wanted this to work out."

Lewis has not commented on the split. The 30-year-old is keeping his focus on work and returned for pre-season Formula One testing in Jerez, Spain after the split was confirmed.
