Whoopi Goldberg's younger brother has passed away, according to various reports. The actress is said to have rushed to be with Clyde on Tuesday, shortly before he died of a brain aneurysm in California.

Clyde, who was Whoopi's only sibling, was 65-years-old.

While Mail Online stated that Whoopi's brother had passed away, Whoopi has yet to comment on the reported family tragedy.

Instead a post from The View's official Twitter account read, "We're sending our kisses to @WhoopiGoldberg who is with her family today," alongside a smiley kissing emoticon.

According to the report, Whoopi and her brother were incredibly close and Clyde occasionally worked as the actress' driver on film sets.

The siblings were raised by their single mother Emma Johnson, née Harris, on a housing estate in New York City. Emma took on a range of jobs such as nursing and teaching to make ends meet for her family.

In August 2010, Whoopi's mother passed away from a stroke, and Whoopi, who had been performing in Sister Act the musical in London's West End, left the capital and immediately flew Stateside.

At the time Whoopi openly discussed her mother's death on The View.

"My brother and I were very, very lucky to have her in our lives," she said. "And so, I'm not sad because she had a great time. I think I'm just sad sometimes because I think, 'Who will love me the way that she did?' But I realised that my brother and I have each other so we're okay."

Whoopi also paid a touching tribute to her mum, recalling that she was "one of the best people I think I've had the privilege of knowing".

"I don't think she quite realised how many lives she touched," added the 59-year-old. "She was an extraordinary woman."
