With an Oscar-winning actress for a mother, it's no surprise that Kate Winslet's children have started to show an interest in the world of acting. Her eldest child in particular – teenage daughter Mia – seems particularly keen to follow in her mum's footsteps.

"There's a lot of positivity around it in our house," said Kate on the subject of acting. "What I really enjoy is that she's grown up not just watching me do it, but also learning how to respect it and that's what's nice for me."

Kate has brought her two eldest children – Mia, 15, and 11-year-old son Joe – to her film sets, something she says they see as "a treat" and not "their playground".

Kate Winslet said her teenage daughter Mia has learnt how to "respect" acting

"They don't sit and hang out and watch the monitor and have headphones on and treat the place like it's their own playground," said Kate during an appearance on Lorraine. "They really come as a treat to work, and so they really observe and ask lots of questions.

"My son's father is a director [Joe, son of Sam Mendes] so he gets to experience it a little bit with him too, it's an extraordinary world to live in.

"It's a wonderful job and I've been very fortunate and I wouldn't discourage them from whatever they chose to do. They certainly seem to be showing signs of being very interested."

Kate, who turned 40 last month, also brought her children to the set of her new film Steve Jobs, in which she plays marketing executive Joanna and Steve's close confidant.

"Joe was like, 'Woo mum, you look really bad,'" laughed Kate. "Mia would look at me and say, 'That cardigan makes your bum look absolutely massive!'"

Kate married her first husband, film director Jim Threapleton, in 1998 and welcomed her daughter Mia in 2000. A year later the pair divorced and Kate went on to marry director Sam in 2003 for eight years.

Her third husband is Ned Rocknroll, the nephew of Richard Branson, who she married in New York in December 2012. The couple's son Bear was born one year later.

"I never imagined when I was shooting Titanic at the age of twenty-one, if someone told me I would be experiencing all these wonderful things in my life and have three wonderful, happy, healthy children, and a certain level of success in my career at forty, I don't think I would have believed it to be honest," said Kate. "There's not a day that goes by when I'm not aware of how fortunate I am!"
