Shakira brought a touch of glamour to the Festa De L'esport Català 2016 awards in Barcelona on Monday evening. The 38-year-old pulled out all the stops to support her partner Gerard Piqué at the event, where he was presented with the Best Catalan Sportsperson award.

Wearing a sparkling silver mini dress and black boots, Shakira looked every inch the proud partner as she walked hand-in-hand with Gerard to the bash, which was hosted at Barcelona's Maritime Museum.

It was a particularly special evening for Barcelona player Gerard, who appeared visibly moved as he accepted his award while Shakira looked on from the audience. The 28-year-old dedicated the award to his parents, whom he said "have given me everything in life," adding: "I know these awards are very important for them."

Shakira and Gerard's high profile date night comes ahead of a special week for their family. On Friday the couple's youngest son Sasha will turn one, while just four days later both Shakira and Gerard will celebrate their birthdays, turning 39 and 29 respectively.

The couple, who have been dating since 2010, are both endlessly supportive of each other's careers and Shakira is a regular fixture in the crowd at FC Barcelona matches with her two children.

She will surely have the backing of Gerard as she prepares to embark on an impressive feat of her own - joining forces with royalty to help promote the United Nations' global goals initiative. It was revealed last week that the UN has recruited the singer, Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and Queen Mathilde of Belgium to bring awareness to issues like poverty, climate change, and war and conflict.

"We have to make the goals famous," said Assistant UN Secretary-General Thomas Gass, who hopes to use the women's influence to shine a light on the organization’s 17 sustainable development goals. The campaign has also called on soccer star Leo Messi and actor Forest Whitaker to spread awareness. "Some of those people, they will listen to what Leo Messi has to say, and others will listen to what Crown Princess Victoria has to say… They speak to different parts of society," said Thomas.
