The 33-year-old, who has nearly one million followers on Twitter, became the first England bowler to take 400 Test wickets last year, beating Sir Ian Botham's previous benchmark of 383.

The Prince looked delighted to hand the cricketer his medal, shaking Jimmy's hand and sharing a few words with the star before he rejoined his family.

His wife Daniella Lloyd looked glamorous in a black dress and a matching fascinator, while their two little girls impressed in adorable dresses and chic coats.

"It was a real surreal moment for me," Jimmy said. "Obviously Sir Ian Botham is someone I've looked up to as a child growing up - and to pass him, it still hasn't sunk in yet. Again, I'm just lucky I've managed to play the game long enough to be able to overtake him and contribute to English cricket as I have."

When he heard that he would be awarded the OBE, he said: "These achievements wouldn't have been possible without the help and support of my family, friends and everyone at Burnley CC, Lancs CCC and England."

Jimmy is England's leading wicket-taker in all forms of cricket and the tenth highest in the history of the international game, with 720 in all.

His incredible achievement has set the seal on his impressive career and he is considered an important weapon in England's bowling attack, securing some memorable Test victories during his time with the team.

"It's amazing. I feel very fortunate to have made a career out of cricket. Obviously I've played for England for over 10 years and to be recognised for that is really special for me and a huge honour for myself and my family," the sportsman said.
