Leonardo DiCaprio has been enjoying some time in London following his Best Actor win at the BAFTAs on Sunday. While he has been linked to a bevy of blonde beauties including Laura Whitmore during his time in the capital, there was just one special lady he wanted to celebrate with on Tuesday – his mum Irmelin.

The pair explored the sights of London and joined the tourist crowds visiting both the British Museum and Science Museum, where they saw the Leonardo da Vinci: The Mechanics of Genius exhibition.

While they were surrounded by security staff, Leonardo and his mum reportedly went largely unnoticed on their day out, with the Oscar-nominee going incognito in a padded jacket, jeans and a flat cap to shield his face.

It was a dramatic contrast to Leo's dapper appearance at the Royal Opera House on Sunday evening, where he landed the Best Actor award in recognition of his performance in The Revenant. Taking to the stage to accept the accolade, the 41-year-old thanked his fans, friends and co-stars for their support, but also gave a special mention to his mother, who was celebrating her birthday.

"There's one person I have to thank," he said. "I would not be standing up here if it weren't for this person. I didn't grow up in a life of privilege.

Leo won the Best Actor award at the BAFTAs on Sunday

"I grew up in a very rough neighbourhood in East Los Angeles and this woman drove me for three hours a day to a different school to show me a different opportunity. It is her birthday today. So Mum, happy birthday. I love you very much."

Following his victory at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, fans are now speculating that Leonardo could go on to win an Oscar later this month, having lost out on five previous Academy Award nominations.

His Titanic co-star Kate Winslet predicted that 2016 is "Leo's year" as she told the BBC at the Critics' Choice Awards: "I think you can sort of feel it and I think that everyone wants it for him. It would just be amazing."
