Alan Rickman left £100,000 to charity in his will, it has been revealed. The actor, who passed away in January at the age of 69, generously left a portion of his fortune to help causes close to his heart. Named beneficiaries included the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Sponsored Arts for Education, the Facial Surgery Research Foundation – known as Saving Faces – and the International Performers Aid Trust, who each received £25,000, the Mirror reports.

Alan attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his acclaimed stage career soon afterwards. He became a patron of Saving Faces, a charity dedicated to the prevention and treatment of facial disease, injury and oral cancer, in 2000, and was also honourary president of the International Performers Aid Trust.Probate records show that his net estate of £4million only covered his assets in the UK, His will, which was written just three months before he died, stated that his assets in America and Italy were being dealt with separately.The majority of Alan's estate was left to wife Rima Horton, his partner of more than 50 years. The couple started dating in 1965, but only tied the knot in 2012 in a private ceremony in New York. The London-born actor also gave £25,000 to each of his three nieces.

Alan was a much-loved star of the stage and screen, with notable film roles in Die Hard, Harry Potter, Rasputin, Love Actually and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.Following the news of his death, tributes poured in from across the globe. Daniel Radcliffe described Alan as "undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with", while JK Rowling said she had "no words" to describe her sadness.Emma Thompson, Alan's close friend and frequent co-star, penned an emotional message in which she described him as "the ultimate ally". "We shall not see his like again," she concluded.
