Tom Daley and fiancé Dustin Lance Black appeared to be in great spirits as they mingled with fellow stars at a special screening of Lion, hosted by Harvey Weinstein, at London's grand May Fair Hotel on Tuesday night. The couple, who got engaged last year, were joined by Graham Norton as well as actors James Norton and Holliday Grainger.

Tom, 22, cut a handsome figure in a black pair of cropped trousers and a bold printed shirt, which was teamed with brown leather trainers and a chic overcoat. His partner, 42, rocked a black sweater over a white shirt, styled further with a grey scarf.

The stars happily posed for pictures at the exclusive event before they watched the film, which tells the story of a five-year old Indian boy called Saroo Brierley, who gets lost on the street of Calcutta, thousands of kilometres for home. He survives many challenges before being adopted by a couple in Australia; 25 years later, he sets out to find his lost family.

Directed by Garth Davis, Lion stars Dev Patel as the lead, while Nicole Kidman plays his adoptive mother Sue Brierley and Rooney Mara as his girlfriend Lucy. Speaking to Variety, Hollywood actress Nicole revealed the story had a personal resonance. "It's about motherhood," she told Variety. "It's about saying, 'You and I were meant for each other, however we came together - whether it's through birth, whether it's through adoption – I'm your mother."

British star Dev - who is famed for his role in Slumdog Millionaire, which won the best-picture Oscar in 2009 - revealed how he was worried how the role from the acclaimed film would typecast him. "It's a blessing and a curse, that film, for me," he noted. "It put me on the map and did great things, but you’re fighting against it. To lots of people, I'm the dude from Slumdog. You have to go out there and earn your stripes and prove more than that."

Lion received the award for Best Positive Film at the 9th annual Positive Planet awards ceremony last night in Paris, held at the Louis Vuitton foundation building. Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat was there to accept the award on behalf of Lion’s director Garth Davis and the filmmakers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.

Lion is expected to hit UK cinemas on January 20
