Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds to be buried together on Friday, likely to be remembered at Sunday's Golden Globes

by Emmy Griffiths

A memorial service for Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds will be held on Thursday, with their joint burial taking place a day later at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. According to People magazine, the service will be "ultra-private", and will take place at the pair's Beverly Hills compound where they were next-door neighbours.

The funeral of mother and daughter, who died just one day apart from each other in December, has been planned by Debbie's son, Todd Fisher, and Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd. Todd spoke about making the arrangements to New York Daily News, saying: "It's what we want to do, but we're still working on the mechanics. I'm going out right now to look at places. We like the idea, if it's at all possible. I think it's appropriate." He added to Good Morning America: "Carrie loves a good party, so, you know, I'm sure she'll want to throw a party for her."

He also spoke about how he was sitting with his mother one the day she died, just 24 hours after suffering a cardiac arrest on-board a flight from London to L.A. He told ABC News: "She was very peaceful and quiet. It happened very gently. She loved taking care of my sister more than anything. So, she gets to do that and that's what she wanted to do." With the Golden Globes fast approaching, the award ceremony's executive producer Barry Adelman has confirmed that they are planning to pay tribute to the two actresses, saying: "We've always kept the show as a celebration and as a party, and yet we realize this is a special circumstance — certainly with the recent passings of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. So we're going to acknowledge it, but we're still in discussion with exactly how we're going to do that."
