Joanne Clifton on winning Strictly, her brother Kevin Clifton, and taking to the stage

Joanne Clifton ended 2016 on a high as she scooped the coveted glitterball trophy with her Strictly Come Dancing partner Ore Oduba, beating her brother, Kevin Clifton, to win the show.

But 2017’s shaping up to be just as exciting as the 33-year-old fulfils the dreams of a lifetime, taking to the stage on a UK tour of Broadway’s hit musical, Throughly Modern Millie.

Joanne sat down with HELLO! to talk about her exciting new career challenge, revealing that singing has been as much a passion as dancing in her life, but she’s had to wait a while to pursue it.

"When I was younger I did both dance and singing lessons," she revealed in the new issue of HELLO! magazine. "It got to a point where my parents said we will support you whichever way you choose to go but we can't really afford both, so I had to choose between dance and theatre school."

Both she and brother Kevin chose dance, and have made names for themselves as they took part in the hit dance show Strictly Come Dancing, with Kevin joining the show in 2013 and Joanne making her debut just one year later in 2014. Although they compete against each other in the show the pair, only a year apart in age, are not rivals.

"The first thing I said to Kevin when the camera was turned off was 'sorry' because Kevin has been in the final for four years now. He said: 'Don't ever say that again, because there is no one in this room right now who could be more proud of you than I am. You are my little sister and I want you do well.'"

To find out what she thinks about her sister-in-law, Karen, taking her place on the Strictly tour, how she’s preparing for her exciting new stage role, and her exciting plans for the future, read the full interview in HELLO! out now.
