Nicole Kidman has surprised fans with the revelation that she was once secretly engaged to singer Lenny Kravitz. The 49-year-old made the starting confession while talking about new TV series Big Little Lies, in which she stars alongside Lenny's daughter Zoe Kravitz, explaining that the pair already shared a bond because of Nicole's ties to the Kravitz family. "Well, I knew Zoe because I was engaged to her father," she told Net-A-Porter's The Edit. "It's all in the family!
Nicole's statement marks the first time that she has addressed rumours that she and Lenny were a couple. The pair were rumoured to be dating in 2003 but, until now, neither had confirmed nor denied the relationship. There are clearly no hard feelings between the pair, who were spotted catching up and laughing together backstage during the Hollywood Film Awards last year. "I love Lenny," Nicole added. "He's a great guy."
Nicole Kidman has revealed she was engaged to Lenny Kravitz
The Moulin Rouge star's news has sparked speculation amongst fans that it was Lenny to whom she referred when she had previously admitted to being engaged before she met Keith and after she had divorced first husband Tom Cruise. To this day Nicole has kept their identity a secret, explaining at the time that they "weren't ready" to make such a big commitment.
"I got engaged to somebody… but it just wasn't right," she told Vanity Fair in 2007. "I wasn't ready. We weren't ready." Nicole explained that when it comes to finding love, she always has a "very deep connection" with her partners. "I get engaged and I get married – that's my thing," she said at the time. "I don't want to date. I'm interested in a very, very deep connection."
Nicole, who is now married to Keith Urban, said Lenny is a "great guy"
Nowadays, Nicole is happily married to country singer Keith Urban, with whom she has two daughters, Faith and Sunday. The couple first met in 2005 and tied the knot a year later in Sydney. Keith has spoken candidly about his wife, admitting to Ellen DeGeneres on her eponymous show that he felt life began when he first met the Cold Mountain star.
"You're so sweet. I mean, it's so obvious how much you love her," Ellen said. "You said recently that your life didn’t begin until you met her." Keith explained: "No, because someone asked me if it was life changing meeting her. And I said that I think it was more like it was the beginning for me. I felt like I spent all the years leading up to that preparing. I didn't know what it was, but that's what it seemed like in hindsight."
