Comedienne and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres has left her mark in Hollywood with a star on the Walk of Fame.

She alerted her Twitter followers to the big day ahead, lacing her happy comment with her acerbic wit.

"I'm getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today at 11am. Come watch! Also, I'd love a ride home. 6720 Hollywood Blvd."

As expected, the LA street was lined with family, friends and wellwishers.

Actress wife-of-five-years Portia de Rossi, LGBT activist and mother Betty, American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest and fellow comic Jimmy Kimmel were among those congratulating Ellen.

Overwhelmed by the attendance, the star jokingly reflected on her accolade in her usual style.

She said: "It is amazing. I spent my entire career trying to conduct myself in a certain way, making sure no-one walks all over me, only to get to a point where people are going to walk all over me."

She added: "It means so much to me that everyone showed up."

Ellen's chat show, which has won her 38 daytime Emmy awards, has been going for ten years - and she has also hosted both the Emmys and Oscars.
