Scarlett Johansson sizzles as Southern belle in 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof'

She won a Tony award for her Broadway performance in 2010, but it seems that Scarlett Johansson could be a keen contender for another gong thanks to her sizzling performance in Tennessee Williams' Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. The Golden Globe nominated actress has begun her stint treading the boards as Southern belle Maggie in the Pulitzer prize-winning script, a role which secured Elizabeth Taylor an Oscar nomination  in 1959. Joined by Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz at the after party at The Lighthouse on Thursday evening, the star cut a striking shape in a linen suit by Dolce & Gabbana, sporting a look of relief to match. The theatre was draining enough for the actress the first time around, leading Scarlett to describe her thespian exploits akin to "childbirth".

Said to be "a lot wiser" since her split from actor husband Ryan Reynolds, it seems that Scarlett is finally ready to move on and showcase her new romance. The actress was seen exiting the stage door with arts journalist Romain Duraic hot on her heels. The thirty-year-old Frenchman caught the eye of Scarlett back in October, whom she is said to have met through her tattoo artist Fuzi. And when she's finished luring Broadway to its knees, Scarlett won't be taking a break. The Lost In Translation star will return to the silver screen to reprise her role as feisty action hero the Black Widow in the action-packed Marvel sequel Avengers 2.

Speaking to American news channel CBS, the actress said: "Theatre is what I imagine childbirth must be like. You forget the pain and agony of what happened and you do it all over again. Even after I was committed to doing it, it weighed on me like a ball and chain". She added: "It's intense, but it's liberating."

It seems the hard work paid off for the Hitchcock actress, as Broadway's major critics give her performance the thumbs up. Described as "Cerebral, proud and an undeniable life force", the A-lister was said to be "The only major player in Cat who appears to have a fully thought out idea of the character she's portraying." The 28-year-old must be thrilled with the production's reception, as she has claimed that the Richard Rodgers theatre has become her new home. "It's a beautiful theatre," gushed the actress. "I like to be on stage when there's nobody up there." Fully focused on her career, Scarlett added: "I don't really spend a lot of time in the house. I do like to be up there."
