Johnny Depp has opened up about how his split from Vanessa Paradis has affected his children, and says he is "extremely proud" of how Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 11, have coped with the break-up.The Lone Ranger actor said he and Vanessa were very open with their children during the ordeal, and that honesty was the best policy. "When you have children, there is no room for lies, no room for anything but the truth," said Johnny, talking on CBS This Morning. "Anything other than that is a bad example, I believe."

"We were just very truthful with Lily-Rose and Jack and they were just incredibly understanding, incredibly accepting. I was extremely proud of them, the way they dealt with it. "Johnny, 50, and Vanessa, 40, were together for 14 years and shocked fans when they went their separate ways in 2012.The actor has previously called his break-up "unpleasant" and admitted that the last couple of years were "a bit bumpy" for him.Johnny is currently dating fellow actress Amber Heard, 27, whom he met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011.

His primary concern, however, has been to ensure his children do not bear the brunt of their parents' failed relationship. Johnny has often said that despite his busy work schedule, Lily-Rose and Jack's well-being are his priority. "The thing is, kiddies come first," said Johnny. "You can't shield them, because then you'd be lying. "So you can at least be honest with your kids, and you say the absolute truth to your child — that was very important, to not pussyfoot around. "He has been busy promoting the release of his latest film, The Lone Ranger.
