Constantly being in the public eye is tough, but Miley Cyrus says that she can turn to Britney Spears, the "one person in life who gets it".

Speaking to The Huffington Post UK, the former Hannah Montana star said of her and Britney's journeys: "Everyone goes through a time in their life where they don't want their picture taken every day. She just never had that time where she could say 'I'm going through something right now and need to shut down'.

"I also don't have that, so it's good to have that one person in my life who gets it," said Miley, referring to the pressure of the media.

The 20-year-old recently received criticism for her We Can't Stop video, which featured a reference to drugs and showed Miley dancing provocatively in a series of racy outfits.

She responded, telling The Sun that "The world is so lame" and "People forget Britney, she did the same thing. Britney and Madonna didn’t play it safe. "Pop princess Britney Spears also made jaws drop with her performances and videos in the past, so it's understandable that Miley turns to her for advice and support.

Asked whether Britney has been a role model to her, Miley revealed: "I just think it's never blaming you or making you feel like, 'You've got all this going for you,' it's like she knows. Sometimes life just steps in the middle of your career the way life always does for anyone -- it's just ours is a little more 24/7.

"In June, Britney publicly showed support for her young friend on Twitter. "Loving your new video for #WeCantStop!" she tweeted with a wink face. "Maybe you can teach me how to twerk sometime LOL."An admiring Miley replied, "We could twerk it out in exchange for u teaching me da moves 2 'slave for you' (I've been practicing for the past 10 years."
