The hugely surprising announcement came from the Kate Bush Music Twitter account and simply said: "Kate Bush will play a series of UK shows in August and September 2014.

"The British singer-songwriter, famous for her ethereal and quirky style, last released an album, 50 Years of Snow, in 2011 but in a rare interview she revealed why she did not tour.

Over the years various rumours have suggested that the 55-year-old did not tour again due to perfectionism and the death of her lighting director Bill Duffield during a show in Dorset, but Kate revealed it was due to the draining nature.

"It was enormously enjoyable. But physically it was absolutely exhausting," she said to Mojo magazine.

Kate’s first and only tour in 1979 was an extraordinary event that combined music, poetry and theatre.

It followed her introduction to the charts at the age of 20 with the haunting Wuthering Heights which stayed at number one for four weeks, and charted the love affair of Cathy and Heathcliff in Emily Bronte’s classic novel of the same name.

Depsite her reluctance to tour, Kate has released ten albums since 1978 and is a Grammy, BRITS and Ivor Novello award winner.
