Melania Trump and her son Barron will not be moving into the White House for at least six months, following Donald Trump's inauguration in January. It has been revealed that the future First Lady and her 10-year-old will remain at the family home in New York, to allow Barron to see out the rest of his school year without disruption.

Donald, 70, was asked about his relocation plans at the weekend, and confirmed that while he will be immediately settling in to the historic official residence, his 46-year-old wife and youngest child would move "after he's finished with school" next year.

In the meantime, mother and son will continue to reside at their Trump Tower penthouse in NYC, with Melania travelling as and when necessary to fulfil her duties. Barron, meanwhile, will continue his studies at a private school in New York's Upper West Side, which costs upwards of $40,000 a year.

An insider told the New York Post: "Melania is extremely close to Barron and they have become closer during the campaign. The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum."

Donald and his family have continued to live at Trump Tower following his shock election win earlier this month. His presence at the building has meant the Secret Service has had to set up round-the-clock security, and even block off certain sections of Fifth Avenue; the same security presence will likely remain while Melania and Barron are in residence.

Last year, father-of-five Donald opened up to People about his home life with Melania and Barron, and revealed that his wife has taken on all the childcare responsibilities herself. "We keep it down to a minimum," said the business magnate, who has staff to help with cooking and housework, but no nanny. "If you have too much help, you don't get to know your children."

Melania added: "I like to be hands-on. I think it's very important," revealing that she helps Barron with his homework and takes him along to all his extra-curricular activities.
