Liam Payne has paid tribute to his girlfriend Cheryl who gave birth to the couple’s first child on Wednesday, describing her as an ‘incredible mother’. As the news broke on Saturday evening, after the former Girls Aloud star made her happy announcement on Instagram, Liam took to social media himself to express how in awe he was of his son’s amazing mother. “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I'm left speechless... wow!” the overwhelmed 1D star wrote.

“I'm incredibly happy to welcome our new baby boy into the world, it's a moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life and my favourite memory I have so far,” he went on. “I'm completely in awe of his incredible mother and how she has been the whole way through this,” the proud new dad added, speaking about his 33-year-old love. “She's really made my dreams come true. We haven't named him yet but he's already capturing hearts including mine. I feel very blessed. Happy Mother's Day everyone!”

Liam’s emotional outpouring comes just a week after he spoke publicly for the first time about his romance with Cheryl. The 23-year-old revealed that he had had a crush on the singer since he was a teenager as he heaped praise on the then-pregnant star. Reflecting on their relationship, Liam told Rollacoaster magazine: "Obviously I have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world and she's absolutely amazing. She's been my dream girl since I was younger. She's so ace.”

He continued: "She's a wonderful, wonderful person and it's amazing to have someone who can relate to so much of things – someone who's taken greater steps than me. Her solo career was amazing. She’s been in the industry for 14 years now. She fully supports me. We're super happy. It's a very personal, precious time for us. I'm still learning. I'm only 23."
