Alexa Chung didn't win her episode of the Great Comic Relief Bake Off but she did have great fun, later telling fans on Twitter: "Thank you all for watching. Will whip you up some crumpets to show my gratitude."

The presenter and fashionista lost out to funnywoman Victoria Wood, who was named Star Baker in the final heat of the series, which also featured Fonejacker actor Kayvan Novak and former Radio 1 presenter Chris Moyles.

Ahead of her appearance in the Bake Off tent, 31-year-old Alexa urged followers to tune in and watch her "try and crack Hollywood (Paul Hollywood)" referring to the critical judge. As Alexa donned her apron, she admitted that her kitchen doesn't get much use. "I keep my shoes in the oven! I literally haven't turned my oven on for three years," she laughed.

However, she rose to the challenge making Salted Caramel Chocolate Brownies for the Signature Challenge. Moving on to Technical Challenge the brunette then turned out a batch of crumpets that were, according to Paul, quite tasty.

Multi-talented Victoria did make some errors, however. Her coconut and lime tray bake got stuck to the tin, because the mother-of-two didn't grease the foil. In the end she triumphed with a beetroot cake after the celebrities were asked to make a vegetable cake.

Alexa's effort was a courgette and lime selfie cake. Pulling it out of the oven she lamented: "It's really flat. And it's over-cooked. And it's burnt".
