Mary Berry reveals meeting the Queen is the 'greatest memory' of her career

Mary Berry talked meeting the Queen and her thoughts on the new Great British Bake Off line-up

Mary Berry has opened up about meeting the Queen and Prince Philip, describing it as the "greatest memory" of her career. The former Great British Bake Off judge talked about the experience in an address at Cambridge University's Student Union on Monday evening, telling the gathered students: "The greatest memory I had was to go to the Palace. I had a phone call saying the Queen would like me to go to the Palace for dinner. They gave me a date but I couldn't make it… so they gave me another date."

According to The Tab, Mary was also posed with another problem ahead of the meeting. "What am I going to wear, I wondered, so I thought I'd get a personal shopper- John Lewis! I got a dress in the sale for £35."

Mary continued: "What a pleasure it was to see her… her shoes were oh so comfortable. They looked like they had been padded forever. What a wise lady! I sat next to the Duke [of Edinburgh]. He said he loved to BBQ and needed some advice on stuffing small birds!"

During her address at the Student Union Mary also shared her thoughts on the new Bake Off line-up, and admitted she wouldn't rule out working with her former colleagues Mel and Sue again in the future. "Prue Leith was a perfect choice, I don't know the other comedians, they are not in my circle. It couldn't get bigger than it was on the BBC," Mary told the audience, adding: "Mel and Sue have been true friends ever since Bake Off… I think we will do something in the future."

It is not the first time Mary has spoken about the new line-up for Channel 4's takeover of the hit baking show; in March the 82-year-old admitted she didn't know who comedian Noel Fielding is, telling The Sun: "I don't know him, but I'd take my chances."
