He left fans devastated when he left his role on Saturday Kitchen after presenting the popular BBC cooking show for ten years. But now, James Martin is planning to return to his weekend primetime slot after landing a new Saturday morning cookery show with ITV. The new series, Saturday Morning with James Martin, will see the TV chef share inspirational recipes for the weekend whilst chatting to a whole host of celebrity guests from his own kitchen.

Speaking of his new appointment, James said in a statement: "ITV is just such a wonderful broadcaster and an absolute pleasure to work with. Me and my team feel right at home here and are really excited about growing our relationship with the new projects we have coming up. America is a place I have always loved and the chance to go and explore it both for Daytime and Peak at ITV is one I simply couldn't resist!"

He added: "Being back on Saturday mornings feels really exciting, not a day has gone by in the last year without someone asking me if I'll be back at that time! But it was really important to me to do things differently… so the new show will take some unexpected turns, watch this space!" As well as the new morning show, James will also front James Martin’s American Adventure, which will see him heading from Los Angeles to New York whilst trying out some of the State's iconic food.

In March it was confirmed that Matt Tebbutt would take over James's role on Saturday Kitchen after being at the helm for a decade. Earlier this year, James explained how it was down to the sudden death of a stranger which had made him consider his position on the BBC series. The star explained: "I was chatting to him and he stood up on stage and collapsed and passed away in front of me." He added: "That was just over a year ago and that was the decision to change. I look back at all the work I'd done, I'd done like four days off that year and five days off the year before and I thought something's got to change. And that was partly the reason why I gave up the Saturday Morning show."
