It may still be seven weeks until Halloween, but Colin the Caterpillar has already got his costume ready! The iconic Marks and Spencer cake has had a ghoulish makeover ahead of All Hallows Eve, and has been unveiled in his new guise as Count Colin the Caterpillar.

STORY: Colin the Caterpillar cake and Connie are getting married

Colin, who counts David Beckham and former Prime Minister David Cameron among his many fans, has swapped his normal cheerful look to become a creepy vampire caterpillar, complete with fangs, black boots and a blood red drizzle. But the good news is he tastes just as sweet underneath the Halloween exterior, with the same chocolate sponge roll filled with chocolate butter cream that shoppers know and love.

The new cake costs £7 and will be available alongside a number of Halloween treats - including mini Count Colin the Caterpillars - at Marks & Spencer from October.

It is not the first time Colin has had a makeover; in January M&S revealed that the lovable cake was set to marry his true love Connie following a whirlwind romance. Celebrity cake icon Connie opted for the best cake designer and chose a simple look – a striking rose head crown with a flowing white veil. She even upgraded her iconic pink trainers for a stunning shimmering pair.

Meanwhile the groom Colin sported a black top hat and swapped his white day shoes for formal black wedding shoes. He completed his look with a white rose buttonhole to match Connie's white and pink floral bouquet. An M&S spokesperson said: "Colin and Connie are the perfect match and their big day is set to be the wedding of the year. For Colin it was love at first sight and he couldn't wait to 'put a ring on it'!"
