The Golden Globes' first-ever cold open
Jimmy Fallon kicked off the 2017 show with an epic cold open inspired by the Golden Globe-nominated film La La Land. The musical number featured a number of surprise celebrity cameos including nominees Nicole Kidman and Ryan Reynolds – not to mention immy's close pal Justin Timberlake, with whom he re-enacted Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's famed dance scene. The kids of Stranger Things, Amy Adams, John Travolta, Kit Harington, Rami Malek, Evan Rachel Wood, Sarah Paulson, and Sterling K. Brown were also among recognizable faces who appeared in the fun clip.

The kiss seen around the country
Nominees Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield shared a passionate kiss after they both lost to Ryan Gosling in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy category. The pair locked lips for several seconds, much to Ryan's wife Blake Lively's amusement, left.

Ryan Gosling's heartfelt speech
The La La Land star thanked the leading lady in his life, partner Eva Mendes, for helping him win his first Golden Globe award.
"You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain," he said in his speech.
"While I was singing and dancing and having one of the best experiences of my life, my lady was raising our daughter [Esmeralda], pregnant with our other [Amada] and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer," Ryan said before dedicating his speech to Eva's late brother, Juan Carlos Mendes. "Sweetheart, thank you."

Sofia's faux pasModern Family actress Sofia Vergara laughed as she had a pronunciation mishap while introducing Sylvester Stallone’s three daughters (Sistine, Scarlet and Sophia) as this year’s Miss Golden Globes.
“Good evening. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has an anal tradition,” the actress said as the audience erupted into laughter. “I didn’t mean anal, I meant they have an anus tradition." She continued, "They have a tradition that they do every year of choosing a second generation performer to assist in the presentation of the award.”

Brad Pitt's surprise
Angelina Jolie's ex-husband made an unexpected appearance at the award show to present the film Moonlight, which Plan B, his movie company, produced. The actor received a loud applause from the star-studded crowd as he presented a clip from the film that won the award for best Best Drama Motion Picture.

Meryl Streep gets political
The Oscar winning actress was honored with the Cecil B. Demille Award at the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, where things took a political turn during her speech. Meryl, without directly calling out President-elect Donald Trump, said "Hollywood is a bunch of people from other places” and “is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”
The honoree wrapped her moment by paying tribute to her late pal, Carrie Fisher. She said, “As my friend, the dearly departed Princess Leia said to me, 'Take your broken heart, make it into art.' Thank you friend.”

Fashionistas went dark for the Golden Globes carpet wearing one of evening's most popular colors: black. Nominee Amy Adams sparkled in a sequin Tom Ford number, while Mandy Moore turned heads wearing a cape gown by Naeem Khan. Blake Lively looked like a Grecian goddess sporting an Atelier Versace gown. Meanwhile the trio of Miss Golden Globes - Sistine, Scarlet and Sophia Stallone - coordinated their ensembles wearing elegant black frocks.

The kids of Stranger Things (Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, and Millie Bobby Brown) ruled the carpet at their first Golden Globes. The Netflix stars, whose hit show was nominated, met a number of Hollywood A-listers including Anna Kendrick, whom they were very excited to meet. On Instagram, Anna noted of her encounter with the young cast, "The amazing kids from Stranger Things wanted to meet me and NOT Justin Timberlake and I'm going to pretend that's because they like me more, not because they didn't see him. #alsoJusticeForBarb."
