Anna Wintour 'allows Kim Kardashian to attend Met Ball'

Anna Wintour has reportedly permitted Kim Kardashian to attend this year's Met Ball as a guest of her boyfriend Kanye West, who is performing at the event. The US Vogue editor was reported to have placed a ban against the pregnant reality TV star from attending one of the most prestigious events in the fashion calendar, but has apparently lifted the ban. "Kanye West and Kim Kardashian will both be attending the Met Gala in NYC on May 6," an insider told Life & Style. "Because Kanye is performing he was allowed to invite her."

Anna is good friends with Kanye, who is a fashion designer as well as a superstar rapper, but she has always expressed her dislike for Kim. Kanye was said to have tried to persuade Anna to let Kim appear on the cover of Vogue, but fashion's queen bee refused. Kanye is set to perform at this year's gala, which will pay tribute to the Punk movement. It celebrates the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibiton, and will look at punk’s impact on high fashion from the movement's inception in the 1970s to its continuing influence today. Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute curator, previously said: ''Punk broke all the rules when it came to fashion, and everything became possible after punk.

''Its impact on high fashion became so enormous, and continues at the same time." The 14 looks include fashion houses like Chanel, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. The exhibition runs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City from May 9 to August 14. In other Met Ball news, Beyoncé was recently named an honorary chair-person. The superstar songstress joins the likes of Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisco, Hollywood fashionista Rooney Mara and Anna in their hosting roles at the annual event. Beyoncé has had many memorable red carpet moments at the Met Ball over the years, a factor that is likely to have played a part in the committee's decision to enlist her. She was the talk of the town in 2012, setting flashbulbs blazing as she stepped out in a partly transparent Givenchy Haute Couture purple feather gown with an impressive train. Not to mention the dramatic fishtail gown by Emilio Pucci that she wore to the swanky bash in 2011.
