One of Hollywood’s brightest young actors has entered a rehab centre to battle alcohol addiction. Ben Affleck has checked into Promises, a Malibu, California treatment centre, for a 30-day course. It is said that the Pearl Harbor star went on a four-month binge of partying and gambling before deciding to seek help.

“Ben is a self-aware and smart man who has decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol,” said his publicist David Pollock. “He has chosen to seek out professional assistance and is committed to travelling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and fans.”

The actor, who co-wrote Good Will Hunting, bagging himself an Oscar in the process, was alleged to have visited Las Vegas with his fellow Academy Award winner and close buddy Matt Damon. “Whenever they visit the desert town, they go to the casinos and bet huge sums on blackjack,” an insider claimed. “They’re also drinking while they are gambling.”

Ben, who recently whooped it up for a whole weekend at a party inside Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion, will find his new regime takes a lot of getting used to. After detoxification treatment, the actor will undergo daily sessions of group and individual therapy and physical workouts. He will celebrate his 29th birthday on August 15 in Promises, where fellow actor Robert Downey Jr is also being treated.
